Every set he curates is a musical adventure designed to take the listener on an inner world shamanic journey. With over 30 years of experience behind the decks, Shiva J has amassed a music collection that would make most DJs envious — over 10,000 vinyl records and a CD collection that runs six digits. He’s excited to bring modern technology into the mix, digitizing decades of collecting to blend it seamlessly with everything current.
His sets move fluidly across genres and eras: tribal and Afro house, psychedelic and progressive trance, deep techno, dark ambient and neoclassical, IDM and downtempo electronica, funk, soul, and disco, alongside the darkwave, goth, and industrial roots of his club days. Woven throughout is a deep well of world music — Persian, Arabian, and Asian instrumentation, Buddhist and Zen tonalities, tribal percussion, and shamanic soundscapes — pulled together into a single continuous arc rather than a playlist of songs.
The goal is never just a good mix. It’s an experience — one that moves a room through tension and release, stillness and ecstatic peak, until the dancefloor becomes a collective ritual rather than just another party. But a party it is, nonetheless!
Bio
Shiva J is a DJ, musician, performance artist, percussionist, and producer with a 30+ year career behind the decks — also a somatic facilitator, certified tantra educator, and relationship coach working at the intersection of body, psyche, and heart. His path began in the fitness industry, coaching thousands through physical transformation, before pulling him deeper into both music and the inner work simultaneously.
As a former nightclub owner, promoter, and producer since the mid-90s, Shiva J has managed dancefloors of thousands. He was resident DJ at Darkwave Garden in the early 2000s, and ran three distinct San Diego club nights: Club 80’s, Binary Code (an IDM/electronic dance space), and Club Cathedral (an alternative goth/industrial club). That same instinct for reading a room and moving a crowd now shows up in his ecstatic dance sets, where percussion, world music, and electronic soundscapes guide people into embodied release. His DJ and event work lives at SD DJ On The Go.
Alongside the music, Shiva holds a BA in Psychology and is completing his Master’s in Somatic Psychology at the Integrative Psychology Institute. He is the founder of The Heart Centered Being, an ecosystem of offerings including Tantric Touch for women, Tantra Date Night for couples, and Temple Tribe community, and the founder of The Sacred Kings, a men’s brotherhood (est. 2018) built on accountability, shadow work, and the reclamation of mature, sovereign masculinity.
Shiva J speaks from lived experience — once a man with little capacity for presence or the language of the heart, who found his way home through both the dancefloor and the depths. That journey now shapes everything he offers: helping people come home to their bodies, their desire, and each other.
