N E Ø M Ʌ
Jenna Ecklein
N E Ø M Ʌ takes dancers on a journey around the world, piecing together an eclectic soundscape filled with world instruments, nature sounds, and soul-stirring vocals from across the globe. With her love affair with bass, she utilizes the grounding effect of heavy baselines to assist dancers in fully dropping out of their heads and into their bodies. N E Ø M Ʌ loves evoking a collective sense of belonging and connection on the dance floor, by sprinkling in nostalgic pop remixes to sing-a-long to. Being a singer-songwriter herself, she weaves in her intuitive live vocals throughout her set. For N E Ø M Ʌ, every dance is a prayer and every set is a ceremony. Her hope is that her intentionally curated sets inspire a deep remembrance in the listeners, of the ancient and ancestral practice of dance and music as medicine.

Bio

Dance was one of the first loves of my life. As a child I would spend HOURS dancing and singing to music. As I grew up, little by little my passion for dance began to diminish. Between pubescent body-image issues and militant dance teachers, my inner child slowly began to shut down and eventually I stopped dancing all together.

At 16 I began practicing vinyasa yoga, which became an incubator for the reawakening of my love for dance. Something about the combination of sweat, loud music and flowing sequences acted as a safe container for me to explore my body. It took many years of practicing yoga before I ever stepped back into the world of dance.

Dance allows me to go beyond my conscious waking mind and connect with a deeper part of myself. I love getting out of my head and getting lost in the music. For me, dance is a form of embodied prayer.

In 2022, Olivia DeGennaro and I created Goddess Night Out, a women’s ecstatic dance based in Sacramento, CA. Each dance is curated around the energy of the full moon, where we collaborate with local woman DJs, workshop facilitators, sound healers, and vendors. I began Djing in 2023, after falling deeply in love with building community through curating transformative dance spaces. 💃🏿

Reclaiming song and dance as a part of daily life has been the greatest gift I’ve ever given myself. This deep remembrance, has led me to offer holistic vocal coaching services, to help others connect to the healing power of their own voice. In addition to curating conscious dance spaces, hosting women’s gatherings, and DJing, I also offer regular song circles, and Artist’s Way group containers, to assist others in tapping into their own creativity.
