Ecstatic Dance

Ecstatice can help you feel free in your body, mind, and spirit. All of our bodies hold memories and scars. Ecstatic dance is one of the ways you dislodge those stuck emotions and feel free from their hold. This is certainly true for me, and I hope NFK can create this atmosphere for anyone to join. At the same time there’s no need to go that deep. Take this time to have some fun without any judgement. Or even just mediate if you please. It’s your time to be free, creative, compassionate, and just jam to some great music.

There is no actual requirement to dance. Choose to do whatever feels most comfortable for your body and your state of mind when you show up to the studio. You can choose to move in any way that feels good. That includes not moving at all and just meditating instead.

With all that said, here are some guidelines for the event:

1. We Dance without shoes (or: We Dance Barefoot)
This allows us to connect more fully with the Ground (socks are OK)
If you have a physical condition that you need dance shoes, then OK
2. We Dance without words (or: We Dance with Body Language)
This makes it easier to be in a Meditative State
No Verbal Instruction from the Facilitators
No Talking from the Dancers
3. We Dance as We Are
No Drugs/Alcohol, No Phones, No Camera/Video, No Scents, No Expectations, No Judgements, No Shoulds, No Oughts… Just Be Yourself; With Respect for Ourselves, the Space, and One Another.

When I lived in Seattle, WA there were multiple esctatic dance events every week! Up there a lot of people were very interactive with each other, while still maintaining no talking. So there’s no requirement that you must dance alone. Initiating interaction with someone else first and foremost requires consent. You can see if the person is willing to dance with you in two different ways: first you can make sustained eye contact with them and see if they maintain eye contact with you, second you can attempt to match or mimic their movements and see if they make eye contact and reach out to you. If someone turns away from you, or moves away from you, that should be taken as a sign that they are not willing to dance with you at that time. Don’t take it personally. Please be respectful, everyone’s on their own journey.

Let’s have some fun!
