Ecstatic Dance

Details

We are excited to announce that the Community Meditation Circle is collaborating with community members to host an Ecstatic Dance Mindful Movement event on March 23.

The event: On Sunday 3/23, we invite you to a free community event at 106 S Division from 7pm-830pm. All ages and bodies welcome. An LGBTQ-affirming event. A sober event. Street parking. Note, the location is south of Fulton (check GPS to ensure you are coming to a SE Division Street address). The building is a Dwelling Place property and the space is a large, inclusive community space.

Purpose of event: To experience joy and fun through dance and movement; to explore how our bodies move; to release stuckness in the body; and to cultivate community through movement and presence.

What to expect: At 7pm, we will gather to establish group norms that are consent-centric, inclusive, and judgment-free. Please arrive on-time so that we can begin cultivating community right away. We will dance from 715-830pm and reserve the last 15 minutes for socializing and to close the circle.

What to wear/bring: We recommend wearing light, non-restrictive clothing and socks or no shoes. Feel free to show up authentically. Bring your own water.

*****What is ecstatic dance (also called mindful movement)? It’s simple – it’s when we tap into ourselves and allow our bodies to move to the music. There is no right or wrong way to move your body. Think about what it feels like to be in a flow state or think about how you might dance in your kitchen – that’s ecstatic dance. It’s a free-flowing kind of movement sans expectations or judgment.

Dance Guidelines

Ecstatic Dance – 3 Simple Guidelines
1. We Dance without shoes (or: We Dance Barefoot)
This allows us to connect more fully with the Ground (socks are OK)
If you have a physical condition that you need dance shoes, then OK
2. We Dance without words (or: We Dance with Body Language)
This makes it easier to be in a Meditative State
No Verbal Instruction from the Facilitators
No Talking from the Dancers
3. We Dance as We Are
No Drugs/Alcohol, No Phones, No Camera/Video, No Scents, No Expectations, No Judgements, No Shoulds, No Oughts… Just Be Yourself; With Respect for Ourselves, the Space, and One Another.
