Ecstatic Dance
We are Birmingham, Alabama’s official Ecstatic Dance Chapter and have been around for many years. Starting as a small weekly event with a strong contingent of core members and expanding to outdoor DJ dances with sound baths, local business vendors, intuitive movement, live musicians, live art, guided meditation, share circles, and more, we are continuing to expand our footprint and bring our community together to process, let go, expand, and connect.
To us, ecstatic dance is about community, expression, and freedom through movement to music.
We host monthly events across Central Alabama.
At our events, you can expect an introduction with an overview of the rules, followed by some sort of grounding practice. Then we dance, building energy and grooving! This is followed by slowing down of the dance music before a shared closing ceremony, often incorporating aspects of meditation or sound bath. We recommend attending the entire time, but understand that may not be feasible for all.
Tickets are $20 for most events, but we will always welcome anyone that is interested. Feel free to reach out to us if you want to learn more about volunteering and contributing to our community in non-financial ways.

Dance Guidelines
Ecstatic Dance
1. We Dance without shoes (or: We Dance Barefoot)
This allows us to connect more fully with the Ground (socks are OK)
If you have a physical condition that you need dance shoes, then OK
2. We Dance without words (or: We Dance with Body Language)
This makes it easier to be in a Meditative State
No Verbal Instruction from the Facilitators
No Talking from the Dancers
3. We Dance as We Are
No Drugs/Alcohol, No Phones, No Camera/Video, No Scents, No Expectations, No Judgements, No Shoulds, No Oughts… Just Be Yourself; With Respect for Ourselves, the Space, and One Another.
4. We Dance with Consent
This is a non-negotiable. Obtain clear consent before dancing with another.
