Ecstatic Dance
14Y Selah invites you to join us for a night of embodied reflection, soulful movement, and community connection.
Each month, we anchor into a new theme, inspired by Jewish wisdom and addiction recovery. This is a space designed to celebrate wellbeing, authenticity and the healing path that we each walk. Show up just as you are.
This dance is an invitation to move with all of life, and what’s true for each of us. To release and invite in. To notice where we begin. To consider what follows. To listen for what’s underneath. To honor the quiet courage to start again.
No choreography. No judgment. Just music, movement, and meaning-making. We’ll dance barefoot to come back to the ground beneath us. We’ll move from the heels up, letting our bodies lead. Each step becomes an offering. Each movement a way to listen inward and release what no longer serves. You don’t have to feel a certain way to belong here. You don’t have to show up with clarity or ease. Just come as you are. Bring your breath, your presence, your whole self. You are welcome here. Every part of you. Every step. Every consequence. Every beginning.
What is 14Y Selah?
We are a Jewish community for people in recovery and those who love them. We envision a world where Jewish spiritual tradition can offer framing, sustenance, and a modality for healing for people in recovery and those who love them. We want to live in a space in which recovery and Jewish experiences are not bifurcated, but rather deepen, illuminate, and enhance each other.
14Y Selah is a program of the 14th Street Y, a vibrant Jewish Community Center located in downtown New York City. Each year, tens of thousands of New Yorkers of all ages, races, and ethnicities come to 14Y as members, visitors, or partners to experience our high quality and varied programs centered around arts and culture, early childhood education, summer camps, fitness and aquatics, Jewish life, and older adult services.
The 14th Street Y is a part of the Educational Alliance and a proud partner of UJA-Federation of New York.
FAQ
‘Do I need to be Jewish in order to attend?’
Not at all! This event is rooted in Jewish tradition but is open to everyone, regardless of background or faith. We welcome all who are curious about the experience, seeking connection, or looking for a joyful and supportive community. Come as you are!
‘What should I bring or wear to this event?’
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Since we’ll be dancing and enjoying a sound bath, layers can be helpful to stay warm during the quieter moments. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and an open heart ready to embrace the experience!
‘I’m not in recovery. Is this event for me?’
Yes! While this event is created with a recovery-conscious approach, it’s open to everyone. Whether you’re in recovery, love someone who is, or simply want to connect with a vibrant, inclusive community, you are warmly welcome to join us. This is a space for all who seek joy, connection, and meaningful experiences.

If you have a physical condition that you need dance shoes, then OK
2. We Dance without words (or: We Dance with Body Language)
This makes it easier to be in a Meditative State
No Verbal Instruction from the Facilitators

3. We Dance as We Are
No Drugs/Alcohol, No Phones, No Camera/Video, No Scents, No Expectations, No Judgements, No Shoulds, No Oughts… Just Be Yourself; With Respect for Ourselves, the Space, and One Another.
